The kids had Fall break this year for the first time and we were kind of at a loss as to what to do. The first part of the week we had things in the evenings, then the middle part we had activities in the mornings, so when Thursday came and we had nothing else to do, we started thinking. Chris got off work early that day and he said, “Let’s go to Atlanta!” So he got us a hotel while I packed and the kids had rest time. We left an hour and a half later! It’s fun to be spontaneous sometimes!
We stopped once for dinner and let the kids play for a bit, then arrived in Atlanta around bedtime. The kids were a little worked up with excitement and were hard to get settled, but they finally went to sleep! The next morning we went to breakfast then headed to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens. Since we’re members of the Huntsville gardens, we ended up getting in for free! Score!! It was a pretty day and the gardens were beautiful! The kids enjoyed running around and seeing the different things in the children’s garden.

We left after lunch time and went to the Varsity to eat. It was SUPER crowded, but a fun place to go anyway. The kids enjoyed their fries and milkshake and the hats:
After lunch we went back to the hotel to let the kids rest for a bit while we planned our next adventure. We had left Chris’ tennis shoes at home, but he needed new ones anyway so we just went and bought some more for our next day’s fun. Then the kids wanted to go swimming so they did (it was a little too cold for me & Chris!) and had a blast:
After that, we got the kids bathed and ready to go to dinner. We ended up eating at the Sway restaurant in one of the other downtown hotels and it was yummy! And the staff were really great to the kids when they were getting antsy and going crazy! Also, since Caroline’s hair was wet after her bath, I decided to try some new braids:
The next morning we all went to Six Flags. We got there right as it was opening and it was already crowded! We headed straight back to the kiddie rides and avoided the long lines toward the front of the park. The kids loved all the little rides! We rode the Wile E. Coyote roller coaster, the pirate ship swings, and the Monster Mansion boat ride, then the kids rode the little airplanes, swings, etc.
Since the kids were doing well with the small roller coasters, we decided to try a little bigger/faster one – the Dohlonega Mine Train. The line was a little long but they both liked it! Then we went on the Sky Gondola down to the kids play area to burn off some more energy from standing in line! Then we ate lunch and watched a little western comedy show.
After the show it was getting really cloudy and started raining as we walked to our next ride. We stayed under an awning for a few minutes until it stopped but the rides were all closed from the rain. We headed up the hill to the carousel and waited for the rides to start again.

After that, we got brave and decided to try the Great American Scream Machine ride – the line was a little long here too, but we finally made it on! Well, it was ROUGH! Luke and I did NOT like that one and I was sore afterwards. Luke didn’t get upset during the ride but was a little upset afterwards and said he did NOT want to go on that one ever again! Ha! Me neither! But Caroline loved it and wanted to ride more! So Chris took her to ride the bumper cars and the Mind Bender and I took Luke back to the kiddie section and he rode several more little rides.
Later, we met back up to leave as it was getting dark and crowded and crazy with all the Halloween stuff about to start and the scary dressed-up people coming out! The kids were tired and melting down anyway so it was time to go! We left the park and drove thru Wendy’s on the way back to the hotel. It was a tiring but fun day!
That weekend, we had seen tons of kids dressed up in Frozen outfits and costumes and wondered why. Chris found out that Disney Frozen on Ice was showing that weekend and he was able to get us tickets for Sunday morning. So we went to breakfast and checked out of the hotel that morning and walked (in the pouring rain!) over to the arena to watch the show. Our seats were WAY up high but the kids didn’t care and we had fun seeing our favorite characters on ice!
After the show, we walked back to the hotel to get our car and went a little ways out from downtown to a mall to eat lunch before heading back home. It was SO fun to get away and we did SO many fun things, but there are still more places to go there next time!
