Last week

I've been wanting to write an update about Caroline's health last week, but am just now getting around to it. As I said in the last post, she had been congested and had a low-grade fever, but nothing too bad. Well, Monday night she was up in the night having trouble breathing and Tuesday her fever was 102 when we got home from work so we called the doctor and they said to bring her in the next day (Wed). Chris stayed home with her so I could go to work for a few hours and we took her in that afternoon. Her fever had gone down, but I figured it would go back up that night so we took her anyway. The doctor checked her ears and they looked good, so they decided to check her mucus for the flu or RSV. Both of those tests came back negative (I was so relieved!) so they pricked her big toe (she didn't even cry!) to check her blood levels. Her white count came back elevated, so they thought she must have some kind of infection, but since her ears looked clear they wanted to check her urine for a UTI. So poor baby had to have a catheter inserted (she definitely cried!) but she had just woken up from a little cat nap while we were waiting for all the tests and had just urinated so they couldn't get anything out! So then they attached a "catch bag" that hung out of her diaper and I had to nurse her to see if she would go again. So she finally did after she finished nursing so they took it back to be tested and it looked clear. But they would have to check it again the next day to see if anything "grew" overnight. So after spending 3 HOURS at the doctor's office that afternoon, we went back the next morning. Poor Caroline had to be stuck AGAIN in her other big toe (but again didn't cry) and have her ears checked, but her urine and ears looked clear and her white count had gone down. So after all that they don't really know what was wrong and said maybe it was a virus or cold or something! But Caroline is doing better now and is less congested and her fever is gone too, so hopefully we're in the clear for now. I just think she's going through a growth spurt because she's waking up in the night occasionally or early in the morning to eat, which she hasn't done since she was 5 weeks old! I'm hoping it's just a short phase and won't last long! I'm worn out (which is why I haven't posted all this)!

I've put some more pictures on picasa in September and a new folder for October so check those out. We're heading to Jackson this weekend to see all my family, so I'll give an update when we return!

Poor Caroline! Jennifer and Allison both nursed more when they were teething. Count yourself blessed though because neither one of my babies slept through the night until they were ten months old!

Poor baby. But more importantly, poor mom and dad! She won't remember it, but y'all will! :) It's so hard with babies because they can't say "My (insert body part here) hurts!" If they could, we could skip the tests to rule out, which is basically what they do. When mine were infants, unless there was a scary high fever (which only happened once and was a reaction to the chicken pox vaccine) or insane congestion, I just administered Motrin and Tyleno every three hours, alternating until the fever broke. It always worked within 24 hours and if it didn't, I knew something was WRONG! Anyway, I'm glad she's ok. Give us a ring this weekend. We'll be around and we're all well as of right now -- Lord willing, it will stay that way! :)
