At Home with Two

We’re getting settled in to a new routine here at the Hodges house now that all our family is gone and it’s just the four of us. Family has been with us for 3 weeks and have been a HUGE help, especially with taking care of Caroline and meals and things around the house. We’re SO thankful for their time and effort!! Now it’s just us, but so far it’s going well!

I can’t believe Luke has been with us for 2 weeks! He has been a really sweet baby, very laid back and sleeping a lot! He hardly ever cries except when I’m changing him and he’s ready to eat – ha! At first he slept most of the day and night, but then he started sleeping all day and having a few hours of awake time at night. He wouldn’t be fussy or anything, just awake! He would eat and poop and get changed and get the hiccups, then poop again and have more hiccups and we’d be up for 3 or 4 hours! So we decided we needed to do something to keep him up more during the day. It was hard because he was SO sleepy, but we managed to keep him awake a little more in the evening and then gave him a bath. He had a much better night after that and only woke up once! Then the next day was a little easier to keep him up and he slept well the next couple of nights so I think we’re on a better schedule!

First bath (he didn’t like getting out and being cold):

It took him a few days to figure it all out, but he is a really good eater now and is nursing like a champ! I have to wake him up to eat every 3 hours throughout the day, then he sleeps two 4-hour stretches at night. He spits up from time-to-time, but usually it’s worse if he doesn’t burp well.

Doing what he does best… and big sister doing what she does best!

I’ve been trying to get Luke to take a paci, but he really doesn’t like it much. They gave him one in the hospital on the last day and he took that one a little between feedings. Now he sleeps so much and so well, he doesn’t really need it, but I’d like to get him used to it for later when he’s fussy or teething. The only time he’ll really take it for me is in the middle of the night after he eats and is sleepy or has the hiccups.

Caroline LOVES her baby brother. She is always asking to hold him, but just for a minute then she’s off to play! She’s been very gentle with him for the most part and loves to hold his hands and feet and give him kisses!

We go back to the pediatrician on Friday and I’m curious to see how much weight he’s gained in these 2 weeks!
