After we got home from the hospital, we noticed Luke wasn’t having wet diapers. He was pooping a lot, so we didn’t think too much of it at first, but then on Saturday it was getting close to a whole day without a wet one. Our pediatrician had told us at the hospital that her office would be open Saturday morning if we had any problems, so we called and brought him in. At first they thought he had been peeing a little bit and we had just missed it, but I really didn’t think so. He had gained some weight back since leaving the hospital the day before (he was up an ounce and a half to 7lbs, 8.5ozs), so they didn’t think he was dehydrated. They tried everything to make him pee – massage, cold air, running water on his feet, even a bath! Then they had me nurse him and he still didn’t go! So finally they had to put a catheter in and he peed all over the room! The doctor said she could feel his muscle was really tight as she put the catheter in and that sometimes they hold it for so long it’s hard for them to relax and go! It was so hard seeing him so little and so upset, but I was SO relieved he was okay! He hasn’t had ANY trouble in that area since – ha!
Then we had his regularly-scheduled appointment on Monday to check his weight, etc. and everything looked fine. He was up to 7lbs 11ozs, and his bilirubin levels were normal. So thankful for a healthy report!
