We all went down to Birmingham to be with Chris’ family for the 4th. Some of his mom’s family were coming over and others were coming from out of town for a mini reunion. We got there in time for a big barbecue lunch and had fun seeing extended family. The kids were a little crazy, but fortunately didn’t knock any elderly folks down or anything! We got the kids down for naps early and were able to visit a little more and take some pics:
Please excuse the poor-quality phone pics as our nice camera was downstairs with the sleeping kiddos!
Chris’ mom and her sister Susan and cousins Bill, Warren, and Frances.
Chris’ great aunts and uncle, L to R: Evelyn, Bill, Katy.
And our kiddos after their naps!
Then it was on to fireworks that night! We decided to take the kids since we had help and knew Caroline would really enjoy them. We had to get there early to get a good parking spot for viewing, and the kids got a little restless. But fortunately, we could open the back of our van with the seats down so they could crawl around.
Caroline LOVED the fireworks! It wasn’t too loud since they were far away over the mountain, but she kept telling Luke, “It’s okay, it’s just fireworks!” like he was scared or something. After they were playing in the back of the van and having fun she said, “Buddy is my best friend!” It was so sweet! The kids went right to bed when we got home, but we had a bit of a rough night. At least they slept in a little!
We drove back home that afternoon and when we got home, we noticed it felt warm in the house. I checked the thermostat and it read 81 degrees! It was like déjà vu from last year when it went out right before the 4th of July! We figured it was another leak caused by the Chinese drywall corroding the new coil we got last summer. The company that replaced it said they couldn’t come out until Monday! We prepared to camp out upstairs again since that’s on a separate unit. We spent the night up there and then Chris called another company the next day and they said they could come out that afternoon! They put some more freon in and we were cooling off by that evening and it’s been working fine this weekend. We’ll see how long it lasts, depending on how bad the leak is, and hopefully we’ll make it until we can move in a few months!
