Here’s what we did on the rest of our trip:
Day 5: It was very cloudy and windy when we woke up this morning, so we decided to sleep in and skip the beach. A big storm came through and it rained pretty hard.
The red flags were put out on the beach to warn of strong wind and waves. We decided to go to the outlets again, hoping to escape some of the rain. It stopped raining by the time we got there and the kids had fun on the playground, so that kept them busy while I shopped a little! Then we came back to the condo for lunch and naps. After naps, we went to Orange Beach to walk out on the Gulf State Park Pier. We saw lots of fishermen and one even caught a fish as we walked by! Then at the end of the pier there was a pelican just sitting there with his wings out, ready to dive in at the sight of a fish. He didn’t even care if we got near him and took pictures.
Then we went to dinner at Bahama Bob’s right on the beach. The food was pretty good but Luke got super fussy and was just done! So I scarfed down my shrimp po’ boy and took him to walk out on the beach. Caroline soon joined us and Chris got the camera to try and get some beach pics of the kids. Luke was just a pill and only wanted to run into the gulf, but we did manage to get a couple of sweet ones.
We headed back to the condo and I gave Luke a bath and put him to bed while Chris and Caroline went back to play on the beach a little more.
Day 6: This was a beautiful day so we decided to brave the beach again. The only problem was that the red flags were still out and it was SUPER windy! My hat wouldn’t even stay on, everything was blowing away, and the sand blew up and stung our legs!
Luke played in the water for a little while but then got cranky again. I thought he had gotten sand in his eyes so I took him to the boardwalk to get showered off. He seemed a little better after that but didn’t want me to put him down and was just fussy. I decided he was probably hungry and sat down under our new gazebo and gave him some water and a snack. Well, that was what he wanted and he settled down in my lap for a long time! Caroline played in the sand next to me and helped Chris hold the kite some, then she got bored and had a snack too. We ended up staying out there for a while and had a good time. Then we came back in for lunch and naps. Just a typical afternoon at the condo with the baby gates up, watching Dora or hanging out on the balcony:
After naps we took a little walk outside the condo on the lagoon side. For dinner, we got a pizza and baked it at the condo. Then we went back to The Track to use up the rest of our tokens. Chris and Caroline rode the go carts and the bumper boats. After that, we went to get ice cream at Bruster’s.
Day 7: Today was the day Chris’ family was coming down to join us for the rest of the weekend. Chris and Caroline went to the beach for a little while, and I stayed in the condo with Luke and did more laundry and tidied up. I also moved all the kids’ stuff into our room so the Hodges could stay in their room. Chris and Caroline came back and he helped me feed the kids lunch and put them down and we did some more cleaning. Then we relaxed and waited for his family to arrive. They arrived just as nap time was ending so we hung out while the kids played. Then we went to dinner at The Oyster House – there was a little bit of a wait but they had a little playground for the kids so that helped pass the time! Dinner was good and we got done a little early so we decided to go play mini golf at the Pirates Island Adventure. It was fun watching Caroline try to hit the ball in the hole and count how many tries. She had a blast! Luke was tired, but he did pretty well in the stroller once I got his paci.
She got a little upset at the end when the balls went in the last hole and she couldn’t get hers out! It was time to go home and put her to bed!
Day 8: We all got up and had breakfast and headed to the beach. It was less windy and the waves were calmer, which was nice. The kids had fun running around and playing in the waves and sand. We came back at had lunch at the condo and then it was nap time. Chris and I ran to Wal-Mart for a few things and it was nice to be out by ourselves! When everyone woke up we took some family pics outside on the balcony:
Ok, that’s a lot of pics, but there’s even more! I’ll have to post the rest on our picasa site sometime…
After our photo session, we went to dinner at Papa Rocco’s. There was no wait, so we walked right in to a table. However, we had to wait FOREVER to get our food. Luke got a little restless, but he did okay. After dinner we went across the street to Scoops to get ice cream. Luke was running around and fell flat on his face. He bled a little and was scraped up, but okay. We came home after that and got the kids to bed early.
Day 9: It was a little cloudy that morning, but Chris and Caroline wanted to get in one more time at the beach. Plus, we needed to take down the gazebo and gather our things. So I stayed in with Luke and the girls and we hung out on the balcony for a little bit and watched the clouds roll in. Then I started packing up! The Hodges crew left around lunch time to hit the outlets before leaving town, so we ate lunch at the condo when Chris and Caroline got back. Then we finished packing and loading up the car and got on the road around 2pm. We stopped in Montgomery for an early dinner and then got gas and went to see the house where Chris and his family used to live. Then we got back on the road for a short time before one last potty stop/diaper change. It was getting dark and late, and Caroline soon went to sleep. Luke was pretty fussy – I think he just wanted his bed! He finally fell asleep around 9, but kept waking up and screaming and seemed frustrated. I kept giving him milk trying to keep him from waking up Caroline, but she slept right on through the screams! We finally got home at 10 that night, exhausted, but glad to be home!
Thanks for making it thru my journal of our first family vacation! I’ll try to post more pics on picasa later this week.
