15-month check-up

Luke had his check-up and shots this week and it was an interesting visit. Our pediatrician’s nurse (who I had talked to on the phone practically every other week this summer), who we really liked, left to take a new job and there was a new nurse. She was nice but just didn’t seem to have it together. She didn’t know to weigh him without his clothes on, then she couldn’t find the tape measure to get his length and when she did, she measured him in centimeters and tried to convert it. She said he was 36 inches!! That’s 3 feet! at 15 months! Then she said that was in the 90th percentile, which should have been more like 120th for a 15-month old!I knew from last time that he was probably 33 or 34 at the most, so I was a little frustrated. Then, after we saw the doctor and the nurse came back to give Luke his shots, she was just fumbling and bumbling around like she had never done it before. Meanwhile Luke was kicking and screaming and he knocked one of the needles off the table! It was just too much! I finally found out that he weighed about 26 pounds when she came to re-weigh him without his clothes and diaper, and decided to just measure his length when we got home.

The doctor was nice, as usual, and we talked about his allergies and his pickiness when it comes to table food. I really don’t want him to be on baby food forever, but if he’ll eat it and he’s getting the fruits and veggies he needs that way, I guess I can hold out a few more months! He is getting better about trying new things, especially if he sees Caroline eating it and she gives him some. He’s also still on a little soy formula at night, so that helps him get the extra nutrition he needs. Developmentally, he’s doing great! He just started saying the dreaded word, “No!” this week and will even say “No, no!” or “uh-uh” like we say to him! IMG_9499

By the way, when we got home, Luke measured 33 inches which is in the 95th percentile like he’s been his whole life!
