A New Year

This might not make sense to some of you, but I’m dating these catch-up posts in the month they took place so that when I look back for something in that month, I can find it.

Anyway, January was sort of a blur of snow and ice days and planning and packing for our upcoming trip. We had many days where the mornings were just too cold for school so they delayed opening a couple of hours. Which just meant more time for my kids (and me!) being cooped up inside.

We did a lot of dressing up and art work and baking:

We did manage to get away for a few hours to celebrate my birthday… but not before we celebrated with the kids :)

Chris got a babysitter and took me to Cotton Row, a nice restaurant downtown. Then we went to see a movie, which we hadn’t done in FORever! We saw “Hunger Games: Catching Fire” and it was good. It was just SO nice to be out of the house with no kids!

It was a good thing we got out when we did because the next day, the kids had bad colds and I took them both to the doctor. First time in 9 months so I couldn’t complain!! Caroline had been up in the night sounding a little croupy and Luke had already had a cold and cough and I was afraid he was going to have it too! But we got some meds and they were both on the mend in a day or two, thankfully.

We also started gymnastics this month to have an extra outlet during the cold. Caroline has been doing great, but Luke has been having trouble adjusting from the mommy-and-me class to being on his own. I’ve been having to go in his class for a few weeks so he’ll participate. Hopefully, he’ll get more comfortable and can do it by himself soon!

Then, a few days before we left for our trip, the kids were “practicing their gymnastics” in the play room and Luke his his foot on the glass door. He cried pretty hard so I knew he was hurt, but I couldn’t see any bruise or cut so I figured he was fine. He limped on it the rest of the night, but I waited until the morning to see how it was doing. Well, in the morning he was still whining about it and wouldn’t walk on it, so I knew he couldn’t go to school. I took Caroline to school and took him to the doctor to see if it needed an x-ray. Of course, he was hobbling along half the time acting fine, then would go back to whining about it. The doctor said she thought it would be ok and to just watch it for a few days. So we did and he got better and would run on it, but kept complaining about it anyway. By the end of the week we were about to head out of town and his teachers said he was really limping that day. So I called the doctor to see what I should do, but by the time they called me back he was fine again so we never ended up getting an x-ray. Thankfully, he was fine so it must have just been a really bad bruise or strain that never showed up on his skin.

Next up, our TRIP!!
