Shortly after Christmas, Chris and I were trying to come up with something fun (and big!) to do for his upcoming 30th birthday. We really wanted to go on a trip, just the 2 of us, but with his parents working and my mom taking care of my dad, we just didn’t see how anyone could take care of both kids. We had some reward airline miles to use and decided we would take just Caroline and go skiing! Luke was toward the end of potty training and still napping so we figured it would be best if he stayed with my parents this time. Caroline had been talking about going to the “tall mountains” and seeing the “deep, deep snow” ever since she saw some pictures at an Apple store about a year ago. So we were excited to take her and show her what it was like!
We chose Vail because of it’s family-friendliness and since there was a lot to do besides skiing! Plus, we could walk everywhere we needed to go an didn’t have to rent a car, which saved us a bunch! We left on Friday to drive to Jackson to get Luke settled in with my parents, then we flew out from there on Sunday, February 2nd. We got to see my brother and his family before we left and had a good visit with them. The kids had a blast with their cousins, as usual!
Caroline was also excited about flying on an airplane! We got her a little rolling suitcase to put her babies and other toys in and she loved it! She did so well on all the flights and entertained herself even with all of the delays.
When we arrived in Vail, it was early afternoon and a beautiful, clear, sunny day! I was so glad so that Caroline could take it all in! We rode a shuttle van to our condo and Caroline fell asleep about half way there.
We were glad she got a little rest because we had to take advantage of the clear weather and go exploring up on the mountain! We got all bundled up and rode the gondola to take some pics from the top. Caroline LOVED the deep snow and wouldn’t stop eating it, ha! She kept wanting to jump in it and have me throw her in deep banks. It was pure JOY!
We checked out the ice skating rink and then found a playground – Caroline loved that, of course!
Then we were getting hungry, so we headed up to Moe’s BBQ – it was Super Bowl Sunday so it was super crowded and we couldn’t find a seat. But we managed to get our food to go and took it back to the condo – it was nice to eat in peace! After dinner we went to rent our skis so we would be ready to hit the slopes first thing in the morning. Caroline’s boots and skis were so tiny and cute!
We were all exhausted from our travels so we retired early for the night, excited about our days of skiing ahead!
