July started with some swim lessons for the kids. The instructor lives just a few minutes away and teaches in her backyard so it was very convenient! Luke was a little shy at first, but they both ended up doing great! They can both swim a little by themselves so that made me feel much safer at the pool. They’ve still got a ways to go, but they really did great. We’re hoping to put Caroline on the swim team at our neighborhood pool next year since she LOVES swimming!
The day before the 4th, the kids helped me make a patriotic cookie cake! We didn’t have enough white M&Ms but it turned out okay.
Then for the 4th of July, our neighborhood had a little parade from the pool. We got the kids geared up and their bikes and got to play on the playground for a bit before the parade started.
Then they were off!
Unfortunately, it didn’t last long – Luke got tired of pedaling and couldn’t keep up but didn’t want me to push him & didn’t want to ride in the wagon (our back-up!) or walk. SO… we just let the parade pass and putted along by ourselves… back home! We were kind of bummed, but it was hot so we just got the kids dressed and headed to the pool! It was really crowded but the kids had fun! We came home for lunch and naps and then went to get Aunt Sarah from the airport!! We had a little adventure on the way (saw a guy laid out in the parking garage – went to help him but he was already gone =( sad day!) but we were SO excited to see Sarah!
After we picked her up, we headed home for an early dinner so we could go to the US Space & Rocket Center for activities and fireworks. The weather was FABulous and the kids had fun running around and riding rides & playing.
The next day we all went to Bridge Street and Sarah & I did some shopping while Chris watched the kids run around & play. We came home for lunch and to put the kids down for naps. Then Sarah and I did a little more shopping before getting a surprise phone call that our sister Sherri was going to be coming soon!! It worked out great that we were already out and about without the kids, so we headed out to the airport to pick her up. Then we came home to get Chris and the kids before going to dinner and then to the Athens Kiddie Carnival! The kids had a BLAST and Luke really enjoyed it this year. He rode everything Caroline did!
Then the next day was church in the morning, and we took some pictures afterwards:
Sherri had to leave on Monday, then Sarah stayed with us a few more days. We took her around to all our weekly activities: ballet, swimming, gymnastics, shopping.
Sarah also helped me with a little painting project: a nightstand for Caroline’s room! It was so fun having someone to paint with me & help me. It turned out great!
Sarah was such a big help & encouragement! Sisters are the best! We were sad to see her go, but look forward to Christmas!
Part 2 coming up…
