Crazy Day

Yesterday was quite possibly the craziest day ever! It all started the night before when I had some bleeding. It wasn't much, but I needed to call the doctor to see what I should do about it. So that morning, I started calling at 8 o'clock and the line was busy until almost 8:30 and then I had to leave a message for the nurse to call me back. About an hour later, they still hadn't called me back so I called and talked to the office manager and she said they were busy, but would call. So finally the nurse called and I told her the problem and she said they were full with ultrasounds today, but would talk to the doctor and see what she wanted me to do. While all of this was going on, my mom and sister were calling saying that my sister-in-law was in labor about to have their baby! So I went on to work at 10 and waited for the nurse to call back, which she did around 10:30 and said they could see me at 11:30 but to arrive at 11. My mom called shortly before and left a message saying that my niece, Aubrey Noel Howie, had been born at 9:58am and was doing fine!

So I had to leave work after 45 minutes and Chris met me and went with me to the OB/GYN. We saw the doctor and she did an internal ultrasound and said that she could see the pregnancy sac and that it wasn't ectopic and looked fine. But she said that it didn't seem like I was as far along as they thought (5w, 6d), based on my last MP, which probably meant that I ovulated later than normal. So they ordered some blood tests to see how my hormone levels looked, and to see what blood type I was. I was pretty sure I was type O, but didn't know if I was O- or O+. If I was O-, they would need to give me a shot right away to make sure my body wasn't rejecting the embryo. So I went to the hospital lab and had the blood drawn to be tested.

So I went back to work and waited for the results. They still hadn't called when I got off work at 4:00, so I called and asked the nurse about it and she said that my hormone levels were normal and that my blood type results hadn't come back yet. So I went to the grocery and came home around 5:20 and the nurse finally called and said the preliminary results showed I was O-, so I needed to go get the shot at the hospital right away since the doctor's office was closed. So I picked up Chris from work and we headed to the women and children's part of the hospital, on the labor and deliver floor to get my Rh immune globulin (RhoGAM) shot.

We were admitted to the hospital and put in a triage room on the L&D floor. The nurse took my blood (2nd time today) so they could make the shot just for my blood. She said it would take awhile so we sat back and watched tv in our little room. After awhile I was getting hungry, so Chris went and picked up some dinner for us and brought it back. Two hours later, the nurse came in and said it was ready so I got the shot in my bum and we were free to go!

We stopped by to see some friends from work who had just had a baby the day before. The nurses brought the baby in just as we arrived so I got to hold her! I just kept thinking about my new little niece and my brother and sister-in-law at the hospital in Jackson. We got home around 9pm and that was then end of our wild and crazy, but exciting day!

That's totally ridiculous that you had to wait 2 hours to get a shot. Glad it all ended well.
