End of First Trimester

Well, I've finally made it to 13 weeks and am looking forward to feeling better in the second trimester! Sweet pea is about 3 1/2 inches long, the size of a clenched fist. He/she is on the move constantly with smooth, fluid movements. The neck is getting longer allowing the head to stand more erect and giving Sweet pea a more straightened-out appearance. Growth is happening on top of the head as well with some hair growth and eyebrows filling in. Sweet pea is also covered with a downy coating of hair called lanugo, mostly there for warmth, which will shed closer to delivery when the fat accumulates more. Here's an interesting fact (from parentsconnect.com):
"Your baby now has fingerprints! Believe it or not, he actually created them himself while swimming around in the amniotic fluid. As he moved his hands, the skin on the tips of his fingers formed unique ridges and folds. That's why no one on earth has the same fingerprints, not even identical twins!"
Cool, huh?
