Down with the sickness...

We made it a month without going to the doctor, but on Saturday Caroline woke up with a fever. It got up to 102 that day, but she didn't have any other symptoms so I figured it was just a fever virus. I stayed home from church with her that Sunday and her fever went down and she seemed to be feeling better. That afternoon I saw a light rash on her feet and checked her hands and it was there too. She had some small bumps on her mouth that I had thought was where she bumped it, but then I put it all together. She had hand, foot and mouth disease. It's a fairly common virus in children, especially in daycares and mostly in the summer and fall. So I knew she couldn't go back to school for a few days. I called the doctor Monday morning and took her in that afternoon to confirm it (and she did). Her hands and feet never blistered and the doctor said it wasn't usually painful there, just on her mouth. I thought it was her gums hurting when she cried while she was eating, but it was because she had them inside her mouth as well. Poor baby! Chris was super busy at work that week with meetings all day Monday, so I stayed home with her until the blisters healed. They were looking much better on Wednesday, so we got to go back to work/school. Now if we can just stay well for our travels in a couple of weeks...
