Chris and I had a WONDERFUL trip last week! It was SO nice to get away and just be a couple again. It had been 2 1/2 years since we’d had a vacation so it was time! And Caroline did GREAT for my parents and they loved every minute of their time together! I was so glad that she did well and wasn’t too much trouble for them and that they want to do it again sometime! :)
We left Huntsville Tuesday morning and stopped by the Unclaimed Baggage store in Scottsboro on the way. It was HUGE and had ALL kinds of things, most of which weren’t from unclaimed baggage, but they had stuff marked way down in price. I found a few clothes for baby Luke and Chris bought some earbuds, but it was fun to just be able to look. We got some lunch in town and headed up to Chattanooga. It was a beautiful warm day and our bed & breakfast was right across the street, so we decided to “See Rock City” that afternoon. It wasn’t too crowded, which was nice, and we had some beautiful views:
After that we just relaxed on the patio at the B&B and read and then went driving around Lookout Mountain and up to Covenant College before heading downtown for some BBQ dinner. Here are some pics of the Chanticleer Inn where we stayed:
The next day was cloudy and cooler, so we decided to see Ruby Falls, which is underground anyway. It was beautiful!
After we saw the falls, we took some pictures from the tower entrance:
Then we headed downtown to grab some lunch and ice cream at Coolidge Park near the river. It was pretty cloudy and windy, but we decided to walk across the pedestrian bridge to the other side of the river:
After that we went to see the movie “Limitless” – it was a pretty good movie but we were just glad to be able to go to the theater! Then we headed back to Lookout Mountain for dinner. The bed & breakfast had delicious desserts in the afternoon/evening, so we just went back there for dessert and relaxed/read in the common area.
The next day was COLD so we drove down to Chickamauga where there is a battlefield from the Civil War. The B&B gave us a CD audio tour that takes you around the different sites and monuments of the battlefield. So we drove around, warm in the car, but got out a few times to see the sites. One was a tower monument and Chris climbed the 85-feet to the top for some pictures, then climbed down and back up to let me get some of him on the top!
Then we went back up Lookout Mountain to ride the Incline Railway, the steepest passenger railway! We rode it down, ate some lunch in the town, then rode back up:
After that, we drove around West Brow street where all the mansions are on Lookout Mountain, and found a little trail to Sunset Rock. We hiked the 0.1 mile down for some beautiful views of the other side of the mountain:
By this time it was really cold, so we went back to the B&B and got ready for a nice dinner out for our last night. The food was really good and we enjoyed each others’ company and not having to rush!
The next morning we had our last breakfast at the B&B
and loaded up the car and went to Point Park, another military/Civil War park with monuments, but this was on top of Lookout Mountain and had some more gorgeous views!
After that we headed across town to do some leisurely shopping one last time without kids! We found a few things and grabbed some lunch and headed back to Huntsville. When we got home, Caroline was still napping so we unloaded the car and visited with my parents until she woke up. She was a little groggy after her long nap, but then she kept hugging me and saying, “Hey mommy!” It was so sweet! We really missed her, but it was great to have a break for a few days! A BIG thank you to my parents who made it possible!! Y’all are the BEST!!
