I took Luke to the doctor today for his 12-month check-up. His cold had gotten really bad for a few days and he was waking up at night not being able to breathe. I’ve been having to suction his nose a lot and he had been coughing a bunch, but was much better today. The doctor decided to go ahead and prescribe antibiotics since it’s been going on so long, but since he seems fine today I’m going to wait another day to see if he really needs it. She did say his hears STILL looked good, which was surprising with all the mucous and congestion he’s had. I guess he’s got good ear canals since he’s never had an ear infection!
The doctor and I also discussed his picky eating habits and she said if he’s not eating more table food in a few months, we would go to a specialist. He is eating more things the last few weeks, so I’m hopeful that he’ll do better on his own. He did have to get two shots and he cried pretty hard, but not for long.
Here are his stats: weight is 23 pounds, 2 ounces (55th percentile) and height is 31 3/4 inches (95th percentile). His height has been holding steady in the top 5 percent while his weight has fluctuated a little around average, between 45th and 60th percentile. He’s wearing a few 12-month outfits, but mostly 18-month ones now; he wears a size 4 shoe, but they’re getting a little small so I’ve got some size 5 ones for this summer; I’ve recently moved him up to a size 4 diaper.
He’s been walking really well now, and mostly runs! He’s getting a lot more steady and can turn and pivot and just go wherever he wants to go! He’s also babbling a lot more now and seems to just talk all the time. He’s doing better about being patient or signing when he wants more food instead of screaming and we’re just thrilled about that! His other top front tooth (tooth #4) finally broke through last week, so I’m hoping he’s feeling better in that area.
I’ve been changing his schedule a little lately and it’s been working well the last few days. I decided to not let him nap in the morning anymore after he refused the afternoon nap a few times, even after a short morning nap. I would MUCH rather him not nap at all in the morning and take a long nap later when Caroline is napping. Here’s his schedule lately: wake up around 8 or 8:30 (ALWAYS with a dirty diaper!!) and take around 4 oz. soy milk; breakfast of cheerios and baby food fruit around 9:30 or 10; lunch of some meat (chicken nuggets or hot dog) or soy-nut butter on bread, veggie baby food and soy yogurt around 12:30; more soy milk and nap 1:30-4:30; 4 oz soy milk when he wakes up; dinner at 6 of a baby food dinner and fruit; 6-8 oz soy toddler formula at 8 and then to bed! I’m also transitioning him to a hard-tip sippy cup rather than a soft nipple one and also to drinking his milk cold out of the fridge. He’s doing pretty well so far, but I just want to make sure he drinks enough! The next thing will be taking away the paci in a few months and I’m dreading it! He only has it when he sleeps, but I’m afraid he won’t sleep without it!
