Just when we thought we were all partied out from Caroline’s recent birthday, it was time to celebrate Luke’s first birthday! We kept it pretty low-key and just had some of my family here for lunch and cake and presents yesterday. My parents were staying with us and my aunt came over to join us:
Unfortunately, Chris’ family couldn’t be here, but they’re coming soon. Here is the table all set up for lunch and the decorations:
I decided to make a smash cake for Luke since he’s allergic to milk and I didn’t trust a store to do it! I found some dairy-free cake mix and icing mix that called for rice milk and I think it turned out pretty cute. I wasn’t sure how it would taste, so for the rest of us I got a cookie cake decorated to match the plates I found:
I had an extra layer left over from the smash cake, so I made a little cake for Caroline to make her feel special too!
My mom got Luke this cute little shirt to wear for his special day and the Hodges gave us the hat:
After lunch, it was time for cake! He wasn’t so sure about it at first, but he tried a little:
Before we knew it, it was all over his face and some in his hair! He didn’t really want to eat it, but we let him have a little fun playing in it. Then it was Caroline’s turn to eat her cake and the rest of us ate cookie cake.
Some family pics: we tried to get a good one of the four of us, but Caroline was too hyped up on sugar to pose for a picture and Luke wouldn’t look up – oh well!
Then it was present time! Caroline had fun “helping” Luke open his presents. He was too in to the paper and my phone to care if she played with his new toys, but he did like them:
It was fun just having family there to celebrate our sweet little boy!
Luke was totally wiped after all that attention and activity and took a 3 hour nap! Caroline, however, was too hyped up on sugar and excitement and didn’t nap at all! It was such a beautiful day outside and a perfect day inside celebrating!
