Check-ups

I had my 36-week OB appointment yesterday. My mom went with me to help with Caroline so Chris could catch up on some work and we had to wait FOREVER! They were still making up for the days they didn’t have power during the storms. Anyway, I finally got called back after over an hour and did the usual checking urine, blood pressure, and weight. Then they let my mom hear the baby’s heart beat (down to the 130s this time) on the Doppler so she could take Caroline back out to the waiting room while I had my Group B strep test, had my belly measured, and got “checked” for dilation. I was back to measuring right on schedule but to my surprise the doctor said I was 2-3 cm dilated! She also said that the baby was VERY low down and she had to reach around his head, but didn’t want to hurt me too much just to get a definite number. And that once it was “time” I would have a very easy delivery because everything was ready and in position – whatever that means! I know I could be 2-3 cm for a few days or a few weeks, but she did say that she really didn’t think I would make it to my due date! So I’ve been busy getting all the last-minute baby stuff ready and washed and getting bags packed just in case!

Then today Caroline had her 2-year-old check-up at the pediatrician. Again, we had to wait FOREVER and they said they too were catching up from last week! I was SO glad my mom was with me because Caroline was wild by the time we saw the doctor! We didn’t get to see Caroline’s usual doctor because she was on maternity leave herself, but I really liked the other doctor we saw. She looked over her chart and we talked about her breath-holding and ear infections, which are both better, and about scheduling a dentist appointment and switching from whole milk, among other things. I was thankful Caroline’s ears looked clear and everything else was good too! She weighs 27 pounds and is 34 inches tall, both around the 50th percentile, so she’s leveling out in height. She did have to get one shot, and she cried for a few minutes, but it wasn’t too bad. At least she won’t have any more until she’s 4 years old!

Here’s our big girl outside on her slide:

My Mom is leaving tomorrow and I’m sad to see her go! But I know she’ll be back when baby Luke is born, which may be sooner rather than later! Thanks, Mom, for all your help!!
