What a week!

We decided to go out for a nice family dinner last night to celebrate the end of the year. Caroline hadn’t napped well at school that day, but we figured she’d be okay as long as we went early and didn’t have to wait long. We chose to go to Carrabba’s since we hadn’t been there in a long time and it was connected to the mall so we could walk around while we waited or after dinner if we wanted. The wait was 15-20 minutes, which was about my limit for that evening, so we decided to wait. It was SO crowded inside we took Caroline outside to run around so she would be more ready to sit once we got a table. We had been waiting about 20 minutes when Caroline started running off and Chris grabbed her hand. She slumped down to get away from him and he felt her wrist pop. She started crying and ran over to me so I comforted her and just figured she was tired and hungry. So we went inside to see if we were next on the list (we were). Caroline kept crying and laying her head on my shoulder, which is strange for her – even when she gets hurt she gets over it quickly. But I figured she was just really tired from not getting a nap and hungry, so I offered her a snack. She didn’t want it and kept crying. After a few minutes we got to our table and she wouldn’t let me put her in the highchair (which usually she has NO problem with b/c she knows it means time to eat!). She was SO fussy, but we finally got some crayons and a kid’s menu, so she got in the chair and settled down and ate a bit. Chris and I were so flustered we could hardly decide what to eat, but we noticed Caroline wasn’t moving her hand or arm on that side that was hurt. And she kept crying off and on, especially if we touched her hand or tried to move it. So we decided to eat quickly and take her to the pediatric E.R. since it was late and about to be a holiday weekend. Then Chris found an urgent care office that was open down the road, so we decided to go there to avoid all the flu and sickness in the E.R. By the time we got there Caroline was falling asleep so I just held her in the waiting room. They called her back and wanted to do an x-ray, but I had to hand her over to Chris since I’m pregnant. She cried and screamed for me – it was SO sad I just wanted to cry too! But they got the x-rays and said there wasn’t really anything to see since kids her age don’t really have hard bones in their wrists like adults. The doctor said she probably just sprained it or tore a ligament or something and to just give her ibuprofen and wrap it up to keep it still. They didn’t have any braces small enough, so we had to just use an ACE bandage and wrap it up tight. Poor baby was SO tired and hurting when we got home she went right to sleep, but kept waking up in the night crying, I guess from rolling over or moving her hand. It was a LONG night, but this morning she did better after I wrapped her arm. Here she is with her bum arm:

She didn’t really want to eat much and was pretty pitiful most of the day, but we did get to go out for a bit. We came home and she took a 3 hour nap! Then she was really cranky this evening but ate a good dinner. Then I had to give her a bath (it had been a few days!). Well, that was HORRIBLE. She cried the whole time, so I just tried to hurry through and get her out and wrapped back up! She went down pretty easily tonight, so hopefully we can all sleep!

What a way to end the year! We’re just thankful it wasn’t worse and will see how she’s doing in the next couple of days. Hope you all have a Happy New Year!

So sorry to hear about Caroline. I told Aubrey about it this morning, and then I prayed for her before nap time. Later I heard her in her bed praying for Caroline on her own.
