Yesterday was Caroline’s first dentist appointment. Our pediatrician recommended we go between 1 and 2 years, but I didn’t really see the point in going before 2. I guess it was just to get them used to going before they really needed it. Anyway, I meant to make her an appointment before Luke was born, but never got around to it, so I just had to take him along too! Chris met me there to help in case of a meltdown and to see the place for himself. They had a play area with slides and climbing equipment to entertain the kids while they wait so Caroline had fun. They even took her picture and put it in a magnet frame for the refrigerator:
When it was her turn to go to the back room, we all went along for the office tour. Then the hygienist had me sit on the bench/chair with Caroline while she showed her all of her tools and to get her comfortable before she laid down. Caroline started crying and wanted me to hold her and wouldn’t let the hygienist clean her teeth, which they said was fine and normal, so they just called the dentist over. He looked in her mouth as she was crying and said everything looked good so far and to just come back in 6 months and they’d try to clean her teeth then. Chris took Caroline to get a toy and stickers while the hygienist asked me a bunch of questions and we talked about the best ways to brush her teeth, etc. Then it was time to go! A little stressful, but overall a good first visit to the dentist!
This guy was all smiles:
