First Road Trip with 2

We had a great time in Jackson with my family this past weekend. Before we left, our new camera lens came in the mail and Chris had borrowed a flash from a co-worker, so we were excited about getting some good family pictures! We headed over Thursday after lunch and it took us 7 hours to get there (usually it takes 5)! Luke was a little fussy and it would take him forever to nurse when we stopped. But we finally made it and visited with my parents for a while before going to bed. Caroline slept in my old room and Chris, Luke and I were across the hall in my brother’s old room.

Friday morning, my bestie from high school came over with her 2 little ones and we had a good time catching up. We even managed to get a picture of all the kids looking:

They were just leaving as my mom got back from picking up my sister from the airport, so we all got to visit for a few minutes before meeting another friend for lunch. Then we came home for naps and got ready for my brother and his family to come over for dinner at my parents’ house. Caroline and her cousin Aubrey had a blast playing together! They were so cute and would hug and hold hands:

Caroline had been talking about this green swing at DeeDee’s for weeks and couldn’t wait to get in it!

My mom got the grandkids this cute little table and “tea set” and they had fun playing tea party:

We ate a delicious dinner then tried to take some group shots:

about the best we could do!

(Not really centered and of course my child is picking her nose! And we were missing my sister’s hubby, Freddy, but this was the best we could do!)

The next morning my sister and the four of us went to breakfast with my brother and his family. Then we went over to their house to visit more and for the kids to play. We had so much fun and the girls had a great time together. We took a ton more pics and even got some of the 4 cousins (notice Caroline and Aubrey holding hands – so sweet!):

Then we left so the kids could get their naps and be ready for my mom and sister’s early birthday dinner that night. Us 3 kids went in together and got my mom a new camera for her birthday. Her old one was slow and the lens was in the corner and always catching her finger, so it was much needed! She was excited and totally surprised:

We had a good dinner, but it was really crowded and the waitress knocked a sleeping Luke over in his carseat (fortunately the table caught him) and then spilled my dad’s water almost all over the already disturbed baby. Miraculously, Luke slept through all that and then woke up fussy a few minutes later! The kids were a little restless, but we all had a good time visiting together.

Then Sunday after church my brother and his fam came over again for lunch and the girls played one last time before we headed out the next day.

I think they’re going to miss each other, but it’ll be fun to be together again for Christmas!

At lunch, we celebrated my sister’s upcoming birthday (4 days after my mom’s) with a cookie cake and goodies:

That evening we just hung around and my sister helped me make a scrapbook for baby Luke. She’s so creative – it turned out really cute! We only did a few pages, but at least he’ll have something – ha!

On Monday, my mom had invited some neighbors and friends over to come see my sister and me and the kids before we all went home. We had a good crowd and a fun time visiting, then it was time to load up and head home! We stopped in Tuscaloosa on the way back to visit with Chris’ sister Carrye and see her new dorm room at UA. It was kind of weird being Auburn fans on Alabama’s campus, but we tried to lay low :). We saw her room and I nursed Luke and we took her to dinner before heading back home.

Luke was really fussy and I ended up having to give him a bottle, then he took a little nap, but fussed most of the way back to Huntsville! It was a LONG trip home and we were glad to be off the road! At least we won’t have any more long road trips until Thanksgiving when Luke is a little older and will hopefully do better in the car.

I wanted to post a lot more pictures on here, but you can check them out on our picasa site.
