After we returned from North Carolina, my mom told me that Caroline was still coughing a lot and since it had been over a week (it started on my birthday after she had that fever), I decided to call the doctor and see if we should bring her in. They said to bring her in since it had been going on so long and when the doctor listened to her chest, she said she was really wheezing! She also said her ears looked a little red, but not infected yet, so she wanted her to start on antibiotics to keep them clear and to keep an infection from getting into her chest. Since Caroline’s oxygen level was low (96%) and she sounded so bad, the doctor wanted her to do a breathing treatment right there in the office to see if it improved. We had never done that with Caroline before, but she did really well and sat still in my lap (for those of you who know Caroline that’s a pretty big deal!). She also did well during all the tests and doctor exams and even used the potty there!
Anyway, so the doctor returned to listen to her chest and re-check her pulse-ox and said she still sounded bad and her levels were up just a little. So she wrote a prescription for an oral steroid and some Albuterol for the breathing treatment and said the nebulizer would be delivered to our house – I’d never had something medical be delivered to my house before!
Doing her own breathing treatment like a champ - they even had a little penguin nebulizer for kids:
The doctor said she wasn’t contagious but to keep her home from school another day just to limit her activity (like I could really do that with my active girl!). Then when I took her to school the next day, (warning this might be a little TMI!) they called me to pick her up 30 minutes later because she had diarrhea twice! I told them it was from her antibiotic, but they had me come anyway since she’s potty training and they weren’t sure she’d make it to the potty in time. She did make it to the potty both at school and at home and has been more comfortable using other potties since then, which is a HUGE step in training!
She did get to go back the next day, but it seemed like a loooong week at home! I was really surprised at how bad off Caroline was, especially since she really didn’t sound that bad or act like she wasn’t feeling well. But I’m glad I took her in when I did because even with all that medicine, she is just now getting better over a week later! See? Doesn’t she look fine?
In other news, Luke is 8 months old!! I’m not sure how much he weighs, but maybe around 18-18.5 pounds? He’s still in a size 2 diaper, but when we finish this box, it’ll be on to size 3! He wears a size 3 shoe and pretty much all 12-month clothes now, except in pants he’s still in 9-month.
He sat still for 2 seconds, then it was on to climbing! This picture keeps getting harder to take! Next month I might need Chris to help me!
His first tooth has really come thru now and a second one has broken thru the gums. I tried to get a picture (look at that drool!):
He’s really crawling well now and even started pulling up and cruising! I just keep wanting him to slow down, but it’s clear he’s not going to - I guess I just have two active children! These are some of my recent faves:
After his schedule being so messed up with being sick and teething, I finally feel like he’s getting back on track. Sort of. Last night he was up again, but he has been congested the last couple of days so maybe that was it. Here is his schedule most days: wake up between 8 & 9 and take a bottle, baby food (fruit) around 10:30, nap around 11 or 11:30, nurse around 12:30, veggie around 1:30, nap around 2:30 or 3, nurse around 4:30 (sometimes 3:30 and 4:30 if he’s fussy and hasn’t had a good nap!), dinner around 6, short nap? sometimes, nurse around 8:30 or 9 plus a bottle to make sure he’s full! So he’s still nursing 4 times a day, but he hasn’t been nursing very well (only 3 or 4 minutes on each side most times) so I think he’s not getting enough. I don’t know if it’s because he gets distracted or if it’s because I’m not making enough. So I’ve been thawing my frozen milk and giving him bottles, but that’s been making his skin break out again since I was eating dairy when I pumped it. Oh well, at least we’re avoiding formula for now, but I know it won’t be much longer!
I’ll try to post last month’s pictures up on picasa soon!
