Goodbye embryo, Hello fetus!

This week, our little one officially becomes a fetus! Sweet pea is now about 1 inch long, about the size of a medium green olive. Other important developments this week include hands that flex at the wrist, elbows forming, eyelids cover the eyes, ears start to take definite shape, and the stomach, fingers, and toes are now visible. Some new organs like the liver, spleen, and gallbladder (let’s hope he/she doesn’t get mine) are also forming. The heart is also developed enough, and grown large enough, to be heard with a Doppler (a handheld ultrasound device that amplifies the sound of the heartbeat). Also, spontaneous movements in the arms and legs are beginning to develop tiny muscles. All of this is going on inside of me and I'm just going about my normal life! Isn't God amazing?! Here is what a typical fetus looks like at 8 weeks:

Oh, the olive stage! It passes so quickly and before you know it, you have a watermelon inside. Enjoy these days.
