Luke at 11 months

Whoa, this past month went by WAY too fast!! I can’t believe our little Luke is almost ONE!! He seems more like a little boy now than a baby and has been such a joy! He is so happy most of the time and it’s easy to make him laugh - he even makes himself laugh! I could do without his new-found screaming voice, but hopefully that’s just a short stage and will pass quickly! I’m working on teaching him some sign language so that will help him tell me what he wants without screaming.

Look at those big feet!

He’s been babbling a lot more the last week or two and just “talks and talks!” He likes to say a string of sounds and add “Ahh” every now and then – it’s hard to describe but is too cute! I’ll have to get it on video. He’s recently learned to play peek-a-boo and to clap and is so proud of himself (and you’ll see his other favorite thing these days – banging his head against the back of the high chair):

I’m not sure how much he weighs after having the stomach bug twice in the last month, but I’m thinking around 21 or 22 pounds. Since he’s been feeling better, he’s been eating a LOT to catch up! Other than soy formula, he’s mostly eating stage 2 and some stage 3 baby food and crackers (puffs, rice mum-mums, saltines, animal crackers). He absolutely refuses bananas (which he used to eat before he got sick), diced carrots, green beans, pasta and other soft foods. I think he’s a little behind with eating table food because he already had a sensitive gag reflex and being sick so long just made it worse. But I know he’ll get tired of baby food eventually – ha!

He’s pretty much on the same schedule as last month, but he’s definitely drinking more formula (this week at least), probably around 34 ounces a day! And sometimes he wakes up early, around 7, and other days he sleeps until 8:30! It seems to help him sleep later if he has all that formula. I’ve found some different soy yogurt that he likes, so I’ve been giving him that along with his veggie at lunch.

He’s still wearing mostly 12-month clothes, as long as it’s not one piece, then he wears 18 months. He’s in size 4 shoes and I’ve just moved him up to size 4 diapers. He’s VERY close to walking and has already taken some “half steps,” as I call them, where he stands alone and takes a step as he’s falling down. I’m sure he’ll be walking by the end of this month!

He’s finally cut one of his top teeth, on the left, so I’m hoping he’ll feel better. I’ve been able to see it through his gums for a while now, but it finally broke through yesterday. After a few rough nights, I jumped on the bandwagon and bought him a raw amber teething necklace, which is supposed to help with teething pain when worn on the skin. I have friends that just “swear by them”, and say they work really well for their kids. So far I haven’t noticed a huge difference, but am willing to give it some time. (You can see him wearing it in the above pics). It doesn’t seem to bother him, and I wrap it around his ankle when he sleeps so it won’t strangle him.

We’re headed to Atlanta this week for Chris’ cousin’s wedding, then we’ll be back for Caroline’s birthday week!
